For Kids

Apple Festival Kids Activities

All games will be held in the Seymour city square, or on the west side of the blocked street, just off the square.

Johnny Appleseed Contest

Johnny Appleseed Contest

Dress your kid(s) up like one of the great folk heroes of Midwestern mythology for our Johnny Appleseed Contest! Judging will open immediately after the Decorated Bike Contest judging, and kids are welcome to enter both contests. Registration and judging will be at the Gazebo in the middle of Seymour Square. There will be three categories, divided by age:

  • Three and under
  • Four to six years old
  • Seven and older

This event is free to enter, and registration will open at 8:30 Saturday morning. This contest often draws a large crowd of contestants and spectators, so we ask that you arrive on time and follow the judges’ instructions so your kid(s) can enter the contest.

Decorated Bike Contest

Decorated Bike Contest

Join us prior to the parade on Saturday for the Apple Festival Decorated Bike contest! Entry is completely free, and registration opens at 8:30 in the morning. Bicycles, tricycles, scooters, and child-sized battery-operated vehicles are the only acceptable entries; no motorized vehicles are allowed.

Judging for the contest will begin at 9 a.m. sharp, at the Gazebo in the middle of Seymour Square. Entries will be split into three categories based on age groups:

  • Five and under
  • Six to eight years old
  • Nine and older

All bikes and entries must be able to stand alone or propped up somehow. Kids will not be allowed to stand next to their ride during judging. Rides will be judged based on the originality of their design and their closeness to our “apple-y” theme. After the judging, kids are welcome to ride in the parade with their parents, but all rides must be taken home after the parade.

This contest often draws a large crowd of contestants and spectators, so we ask that you arrive on time and follow the judges’ instructions so your bike or scooter is entered into the contest properly.

Turtle Race

Turtle Race

Think you’ve got the fastest box turtle in town? Come test your turtle in the Annual Seymour Apple Festival Turtle Race! The Turtle Race will be held Saturday morning, after the parade, at the Gazebo. Only box turtles are permitted; no snapping turtles or aquatic turtles allowed. Entry is completely free, but you must mark your own turtle somehow so you can tell it apart from other racers.
